Sometimes I have to get creative with the snacks I make at home with one of my children being a picky eater. This colorful treat was sure a winner in her eyes. She loved to help me make it just as much as she loved to eat it. It was also for a 4th of July party that we made this for. So win, win!!
You only need a few things to get this snack poppin! Here is what you will need to make it.
Supplies you need to make this Patriotic Popcorn
I used my Presto Poplite popcorn maker, to make fresh popcorn.
Orville Redenbachers Popcorn kernels
Red and blue meltable chocolates
Red, white and blue star candy pieces
A sheet tray lined with aluminum foil
Pop the popcorn
First off, start by popping a bowl of popcorn. After you have a bowl of popcorn ready, take that popcorn and spread it out on your baking sheet wrapped in aluminum foil.
Spread the melted chocolate
What you want to do next is take the ziplock bags and fill them about half way each. One with the red chocolate and the other with the blue chocolate. Your going to microwave them each for like 10 second intervals until fully melted.
Bring the two melted chocolate bags back over to your tray of popcorn. Then, cut the corner off the plastic bag to make it like a piping bag. This is how you will drizzle the red and blue chocolate over the popcorn. While the chocolate is still hot I sprinkled some of my red, white and blue star candy on it so it would stick.
This was my daughters favorite part because she kept trying to sneak some melted chocolate to eat.
Cool it down
Once you prepared the first side of the popcorn , I stuck the tray in the fridge for a few minutes to harden the chocolate up. After it has harden, take the tray out and flip the popcorn over. I used a plastic serving spoon to help me flip the popcorn over on the tray. Trying not to make a mess. This way you can cover the other side of the popcorn with red chocolate, blue chocolate and candy stars too.
After completing to cover the other side with the melted chocolate, you can pop it in the fridge again to harden real quick.
Prepare to serve
Here comes the final fun part. Placing it all in a bowl and serving this amazing treat to everyone.
Just like I did before to flip the popcorn over, I used my plastic spoon and my hands to break up the popcorn into bite size pieces and clusters. That way it would be easier for everyone to eat and share some.
This just isn’t any popcorn, this is Patriotic Popcorn!
Show your true spirit with this awesome dish. This patriotic snack is pretty and delicious! Everyone will cheer!
I enjoy when I have the time to at least make one dish extra special for a themed party. I think food is a great way to incorporate the festive theme that everyone can enjoy too! And who doesn’t like popcorn and chocolate?
