The Pattern

For this crochet moss stitch I made a small swatch. I started with chaining 14 stitches. This stitch needs to start with an even number of chains.

I used a #4 yarn and a 6.0mm hook size.

Chain an even number of stitches.

Chain 14

Row 1 – 1 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, *chain 1, skip next chain, 1 single crochet in the next chain* repeat from * to end, turn.

Row 2 – Chain 1, 1 single crochet in first stitch, 1 single crochet in chain space, chain 1 * skip next single crochet, 1 single crochet in chain space, chain 1* to last stitch, 1 single crochet, turn.

Row 3- Chain 1, 1 single crochet in first chain space, *chain 1, skip next single crochet, 1 single crochet in chain space* to last 2 stitches, chain 1, skip next stitch, 1 single in last stitch, turn.

Repeat row 2 and row 3 to desired length.

What can you make with the moss stitch?

The moss stitch works well for pot holders and baby blankets. The tighter stitch provides insultation to help keep things warm.
