The Pattern
For this crochet moss stitch I made a small swatch. I started with chaining 14 stitches. This stitch needs to start with an even number of chains.
I used a #4 yarn and a 6.0mm hook size.
Chain an even number of stitches.
Chain 14
Row 1 – 1 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, *chain 1, skip next chain, 1 single crochet in the next chain* repeat from * to end, turn.
Row 2 – Chain 1, 1 single crochet in first stitch, 1 single crochet in chain space, chain 1 * skip next single crochet, 1 single crochet in chain space, chain 1* to last stitch, 1 single crochet, turn.
Row 3- Chain 1, 1 single crochet in first chain space, *chain 1, skip next single crochet, 1 single crochet in chain space* to last 2 stitches, chain 1, skip next stitch, 1 single in last stitch, turn.
Repeat row 2 and row 3 to desired length.

Make a slip knot. Chain 14
Row 1:
Single crochet in second chain from hook. Chain 1.
Skip next chain, 1 single crochet in next chain. Chain 1.
Repeat till end of row.
Row 2:
Turn, Chain 1.
Single crochet in first stitch.
*1 single crochet in chain space, chain 1.
Skip next single crochet*
Single crochet in chain space, chain 1.
Repeat * to end. Single crochet in last stitch.
Row 3:
Turn, chain 1.
1 single crochet in chain space, chain 1.
*Skip next single crochet, single crochet in chain space, chain 1.
Repeat * to end to last 2 stitches. Skip one single crochet, single crochet in last stitch.
Repeat row 2 and row 3 until you have reached the desired length of your project.
