How to make a spring vase with mod podge
Learn how to make a spring vase using mod podge and tissue paper. An easy and fun craft to welcome spring.
While I was cleaning up the kids stuff, I can across a little jar my daughter made at school. It inspired me to make a larger version to hold some pretty fresh flowers. To help welcome spring and stop thinking about all this snow we have been getting, I put this spring vase together.
This blog post is also in a blog collaboration with my blogging friends Janelle from The Crowed Table Farmstead and Kaylee from Farmstead Over Heels. You can check out their spring blog posts towards the end of this blog.
I show you in a step by step tutorial how to make it. Included at the bottom of this post is a YouTube video tutorial as well.

Supplies you need to make this spring vase
Tissue Paper in pastel for spring colors
Tissue Paper
Start by taking the tissue paper and cut into little squares. I made mine around 1 to 2 inches in size. You could also rip the tissue paper too to make more unique sized pieces. Choosing to use the wavy craft scissors, I thought it gave a cool pattern on the edge of the paper.
To keep with the spring theme, I picked bright colors that reminded me of it.
Mod Podge
Take some mod podge and pour it into a bowl or cup to make it easier to dip the paint brush. Grab your mason ball jar and paint a thin layer of mod podge over the surface. Then, begin placing and sticking the tissue paper all over. Once it is set, go over the top of the tissue paper with another layer of mod podge to seal it. I did a few layers all around to make the colors and shapes of the tissue paper more interesting. The mod podge I used was in the matte finish.
Also place some mod podge and tissue paper around the brim of the mason ball jar. I also did the bottom of the jar too.
Twine
After the jar has dried completely, I used some twine to tie a pretty bow around the top of the jar.
I thought it added a nice touch for the spring flower décor.
You can also wrap the neck of the jar with the twine and glue it in place with a bow, to give it a little different look.
The jar is all dry and bow was added, just need to add water and flowers too.
Another idea I had was, if you don’t want to add flowers you could put a candle in the jar. I bet it would look really cool when illuminated.
Spring décor
Here you have it! A beautiful spring vase made with mod podge and tissue paper. We are using our vase in the kitchen to display fresh flowers. We also made another vase to give to grandma.
There’s just something about fresh flowers. I love the sight and smell of them. Here is an article by Martha Stewart about how fresh flowers around the house can help boost you mood.
Let me know in the comments below if you are going to make one and what flowers you would like to put in it.
