Blogging
I started my blog a few years ago and when I did I wanted to start a lifestyle blog. I wanted to share my love for crocheting and crafting. Also, I wanted to share my gluten-free recipes that I make for my daughter with celiac disease. Blogging is a great way to share the things that you know and love and sometimes make money while your doing that.
One thing I wish I knew in beginning of my blogging journey was that it takes time to make money blogging. Now for me I was blogging part time just as a hobby, so it took me two years to see my first one hundred dollars. I think if I did my blog full time I would of seen that money a lot sooner and probably a lot more of it too.
Blogging also takes a lot of time. For me to put out one post, it can take me anywhere around three days to make. I have to plan the content, write the content, take pictures and edit them, take a video and edit that video. Then, I share it too all the social media platforms, which sometimes can be a job in it self. Blogging is work and you need to put the time and effort in to reap the benefits.
How I started blogging
I knew I needed to make a website first to create posts to share with everyone. Online, I followed a few bloggers on Facebook and started to research how to get my blog started. I did take a blog course that got me up and running.
I started my blog on the WordPress platform with Bluehost as a host. All this stuff was new to me as I’m not a technical person. So every step was a learning experience for me. I think that’s why it took me longer to get started too because everything I make for my blog I had to learn first. But look at me now! I’m on the web getting it done. If I can do it so can you!
Throughout many courses and blog groups I learned that a newbie blogger can sign up their website to place ads on their posts to make money. And that’s what I did and that’s what earned me my first $100. More on this a little further ahead.
Different ways to make money from your blog
Bloggers make money with lots of different ways. The first way I learned how to make money blogging was through ad networks. This is when ads get placed on your blog posts and you get paid by how many people see your ads and by how many people click on your ads. So, this is the method I used to start with.
Another way to make money blogging is through affiliates. A popular affiliate that is used to start with is Amazon. I too added Amazon affiliate to my blog.
One more way is to do sponsored posts. This is when a company pays you a certain amount of money for your post that is about their product that you are promoting.
And another way I’ve tried to make money blogging was to sell a product on my blog that I made. You can either sell handmade items or you can make your own merchandise to sell.
Google Adsense
I started with Google Adsense as a way to make money.
You have to follow their guidelines to sign up to be on their ad network. I believe at the time when I signed up you had to have a few blog posts published already with at least 1000 words in each one.
I applied when I knew I was ready and I got accepted into the Adsense net work.
Now, it was just waiting to see how many people saw my blog and how many ads were placed. When I hit the one hundred dollar point, I got paid!!
I’m posting a picture of a screen shot of my earnings from Adsense to show you I really am making money from my blog. It’s funny cause some people don’t believe you can and some people don’t know you can. My family usually looks at me weird when I talk about blogging. But it’s a real thing and I just keep working on to fulfil my dream of working from home.
Where to go from here
As you can see, from here on out you just have to stay consistent with posting your blog content and sharing it on social media to get yourself more exposure. And you never know when that one post can go viral.
Recap
I finally made my first one hundred dollar payout after 30 blog posts and lots of work. I was so excited that I actually saw a return on my work. This gave my inspiration and drive to keep going and make more money. I couldn’t believed it really worked. My blog really made money.
The next step is to keep growing and working on my blog to join bigger ad networks to make even more money. Striving to do better for myself and share better content as I grow.
As for what is next. I plan to commit to a year long plan to grow my blog further. Mapping and planning for the next years content.
