DIY Yarn Wreath

Every crocheter or knitter will love this diy yarn wreath. This is a great way to incorporate yarn into your home decorations. I show you how I made my yarn wreath and display it hanging on my closet door.

Yarn Balls

The inspiration for my yarn wreath was to recreate little yarn balls in various colors that complement my home décor. My current home décor style is modern country farmhouse.

I wanted to add the look of rolled up yarn balls to this wreath because I love to crochet and I wanted that to shine through. As you know I’ve been crocheting since I was little and now create my own crochet patterns.

My favorite color is blue. So, I went with a soft blue pallet with some grey and white to mix in with it. The grape vine wreath gives a more warm feeling to this piece instead of using a wire wreath frame.

You can recreate mine or totally customize and make it your own.

Supplies

You will need for this diy yarn wreath project:

Grape vine wreath

Styrofoam balls in assorted sizes

Yarn in colors of your choice

Faux boxwood greenery

Hot glue gun

Scissors

Wreath hanger

You can check out a store online called LoveCrafts, they sell a lot of yarn and crochet supplies that I love and use. Check out the LoveCrafts store here.

How to assemble

When starting this wreath I took my hot glue gun and started to glue the yarn onto the Styrofoam ball. I wrapped the yarn around it in way to make it look like a typical yarn ball. Every so often I would stop and glue down a section of yarn to make sure it was secure.

By wrapping the yarn on different sized Styrofoam balls you can create texture to the wreath. Start to vision where you want to place them on your wreath.

Then, start to place your faux boxwood greenery where you want it. After that, start arranging and hot glue the yarn balls down.

That is it. I kept it simple for this one. Simple and pretty.

Displaying your wreath

To display your wreath get a gold wreath hanger and hang it on a door inside the house. I like the look of this wreath to be inside my home.

You could also take a strip of drop cloth and use that as a hanger. That would look lovely with this style. I have used this method in the past. It gives the wreath a softer more country feel to it.

What is it about wreaths?

Wreaths are great at being the starting point to an entry. It can give character and good vibes to your day. They are the one of the first things you see when coming through the door. I say they are the smile on the house.

Using wreaths indoors just adds a layer of texture to your home décor. You can totally customize them. Change them for the seasons and holidays.

Oh my goodness! I love this idea!! I have some wool from my late mom, and I don’t knit, so this would be a lovely way to put a bit of it to use!
