valentines day card

My inspiration for this DIY Valentine’s day card is from my dad. Let me start by saying my dad doesn’t buy cards. Every holiday or special occasion he always whips up a hand drawn card. They usually always have a little drawing colored in that he came up with. So, with homage to my dad I present to you my Valentine’s day card this year. Mines a little more decorated then his usual cards but that’s ok, just my way of making my card.

Homemade and Handmade

There’s something about making something with your hands and your heart. Also, the feeling when you give someone something that you made. Making something handmade makes you feel good and you can express your creativity. You also get to be original with your project. As you know your card is great because you put in the time and effort to make it. You don’t have to go crazy with card making either, you can just use what you have on hand.

Crafting together

When making cards you can make them together too. Spending time to reflect on your ideas is a great way to spend time and talk. Therefore, you can also come up with new ideas just by talking about your original idea.

Customize

When making your Valentine’s day card at home it is totally up to you how you want to make it. You can use different color paper and paint. You can add glitter or stickers. Whatever you want. If you come up with an idea you can design around that idea.

Meaning about two hearts

The meaning behind my Valentine’s Day card that I’m sharing with you means that you can have two hearts come together to be one in love. To represent this idea I made two paper hearts. One big heart and one smaller heart. I sewed them together with yarn so they were connected together.

Supplies

To make a Valentine’s Day card like mine you will need, cardstock or construction paper, some yarn, glue, scissors, yarn needle and a hole punch. For me I had all these at home already. I have daughters so we have lots of crafts supplies at home.

How to make

So the main card is just a plain piece of paper folded in half. Then you need to cut out 3 hearts with different colored construction paper in large, medium and small sizes. The larger and medium size hearts need to be glued together and hole punched around the edge. I then got my yarn needle and yarn and sewed the two hearts together. Sewing from front to back making the yarn look like it is going round and round. Then glue the large, medium, and small hearts together and then glue them to the card. Lastly, you want to write inside the card with a special valentines message. That’s it, you made it!

Another thought

If you feel up to it, you and the kids can make Valentine’s Day cards for the class. A few times we did make our own Valentine’s Day cards for the class and they were a big hit.
