Making the towels

You will need cotton fabric in the pattern of your choice. I chose this pretty lemon pattern. I think they look great in a kitchen. You also need terry cloth. I picked a pale yellow terry cloth for this set to complement the lemon fabric. Grab a pair of scissors, pins, a ruler and a pen.

And of coarse, a sewing machine. I use a Brothers sewing machine.

Get started

Take both the fabric and the terry cloth and measure 6.5 x 11.5 inches. Mark with you pen and cut out the rectangle.

You will have two pieces now. One fabric and one terry cloth.

Take the two pieces and you are going to put them together. Put the terry cloth down first, then take your fabric with the pattern. Lay the piece of fabric with the pattern with the right side facing down. You are going to have to turn it inside out after you sew it.

Pin the two pieces of fabric together securely with your pins.

Start sewing the two pieces together. Sew around the edges leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance. On one of the ends leave a two inch opening so you can turn it inside out.

When you are finished sewing around the edge take you scissors and cut the corners off. Be careful not to cut the thread from where you just sewed. This trick will help your corners lay flat and not be bulky. Then go ahead and turn your work inside out.

Border Stitch

After you turn your work inside out you have to sew the opening shut. Fold the edges of the fabric in and pin the hole closed with a few pins. You are then going to sew along all of the outside edges. For this set I choose a stitch that resembled leaves. I thought it was so cute with the lemon fabric.

See the little leaves? Super cute.

For extra stability, sew a X across the middle of the towel.

These are so cute! Isn’t it interesting how pops of yellow, like in your lemons fabric, are such a happy addition to a kitchen setting?!
