10 Reasons Why You Should Crochet

1- Good For Your Health

The first reason why you should crochet is a pretty cool finding. There have been studies done on this topic. I link below an article from the Martha Stewart page that takes a look into how crocheting can improve your memory, concentration, and sense of calm.

Crocheting Can Improve Your Memory, Concentration, and Sense of Calm By Maddie Hiatt on the Martha Stewart page.

It is also said that crocheting has been able to help reduce anxiety, stress and depression.

2- Keeps You Busy

Crocheting keeps your hands and mind busy. It can help you pass time as well if your waiting somewhere or wanting to sit and listen to an audio book. I also like that it gets you away from the computer/phone screen for a while. Giving you a break from that to be creative and make something physical.

3- Lets You Be Creative

Crocheting can help bring out your creative side. There are so many different things you can crochet. You don’t just have to make scarfs or hats. For instance, you can make stuffed animals, afghans, pot holders, bags, socks, bookmarks, baskets etc. You get the point. What ever you can think of I’m sure there is a way to crochet it.

A funny little trend I saw recently was crocheted cat couches. Now that’s cool, cat!

4- Make Friends That Share The Same Love For Crochet

Making friends that share the same love for the craft is a good thing too. You can find like minded people at yarn shops, festivals, internet groups, your close friend circle.

I once offered a crochet club to my friends so we could meet monthly to share patterns, ideas and learn from each other. Like a book club but for crocheting. 🙂

5- Easy Craft

Crocheting is one of those crafts that is easy to start. You needle minimal supplies to get started. So, that makes it a less expensive craft too. (Except when you start to buy up all the pretty yarn, lol)

It is also a cool craft because you can bring it anywhere with you.

6- It’s Fun

I find crocheting to be fun. You can pick different color and types of yarn to create things. I find joy in making practical and functional pieces.

7- Self Of Accomplishment And Self Esteem

Crocheting is awesome at giving you self great accomplishment and self esteem. When you make something handmade by yourself there is such a great feeling that comes from that. It will make you feel good and boost your mood.

A great way it extend this feeling is to give your handmade crocheted items as gifts to friends and family.

You can also use somethings that you crochet as décor in your home. It’s nice to walk by and admire your work and put a smile on your face.

8- Great Skill / Side Business

Crochet is crafty but it is also a skill. Not everyone knows how to crochet. This is a good opportunity to turn your skill into a side business.

You can sell your handmade crochet items, your crochet patterns or you can sell your knowledge in a course.

9- Teach A Child Or Friend / Tradition

Once you learn how to crochet you will know it forever and you could teach your child or a friend. Crocheting opens up a way to connect with people. Such as it can be a tradition for someone in your family to pass on the teachings of crochet to you and then you can pass it onto your children.

10- Yarn Festivals

Not to be overlooked, one of my favorite things about crocheting is going to the annual sheep and wool festival. I love being around thousands of like minded people. Taking in everything to do with the craft. From the animals that the wool comes from to make yarn, spinning yarn, dying yarn, and finished items that experienced crafters had made. It is my most favorite fall festival that lasts all weekend.

I also love to shop for yarn too. This is my yarn collection so far. I recently organized it by color. I’ll share a picture of it with you.
